Journey in a Weekend Planning
We have a unique opportunity to participate in a Journey in a Weekend at Tomahawk Ranch this December, and because we live in Bailey, we get to participate for FREE! This is a great way to make more progress toward our Journey Summit award, and for girls who are new this year to get a Journey completed so they can begin work on their Silver Award.
The first planning phone call for this event is TONIGHT, October 2, at 7PM. (I apologize for the late notice – I only just got information about it last night.) Participation is optional, but if you want a say in helping plan this weekend and want to connect with other Girl Scouts around the state, it’s highly recommended. The agenda includes:
- Discussion of conference call etiquette
- Review agenda
- Group introductions
- Elect girl leadership?
- Discuss what the girls know about the journeys
- Decide which journey to do for Cadettes and Seniors
- Reminder of next meeting (Wed 10/18 7-7:45 Cadettes, 7:45 – 8:30 Seniors)
I will not be able to participate because I’m training other leaders tonight, but Sofia’s mom will be listening in. If you have any questions, please let me know.
The Travel Bug
During our trip last weekend, the girls started thinking of where else they could go, and they have begun thinking bigger… WAY bigger! They’ve talked about places like Paris, Peru, Costa Rica, Hawaii, and more.
We know we have an already busy calendar, but we would like to help the girls explore their ideas when they are relevant – while they are fundraising, when they have recently thought of them, and when there are supporting events to help us out.
Webinars
GSCO is holding two online webinars about travel that you can watch from the comfort of your own home. We recommend the girls watch at least one of them so they can learn a bit more about their options. Again, these are done at home – you can watch while you eat dinner or something!
• October 3: General Travel Information Webinar (Learn about travel related resources, ways you can travel – tour groups, world centers, and fully girl led planning. Hear from leaders and troops who have successfully traveled and the lessons they learned!) – Sign Up Here
• October 5: Destination Travel Info Webinar (overview of traveling individually or with a group through Girl Scout-sponsored programs) – Sign Up Here
Sleepover
The girls were begging for a Girl Scout sleepover, and we figured that rolling a sleepover into an educational night would be the best of both worlds! Join us at 5PM on Saturday, October 7 at Sofia’s house in Evergreen for a fun overnight where Sofia’s mom, Tara, will tell us about her worldwide adventures and instruct us on how to plan a large trip on a budget. We’ll have some sleepover silliness, and then be ready to head home around 10AM on the 8th.
PLEASE reply to this email if you will be participating in the sleepover! I can help transport girls but only if I know about you!
If everyone is present for the sleepover, we may choose to forego our Monday meeting next week. Stay tuned!
